Credentialing the Workforce of the Future

Dr. Heather Donaldson

Chief Academic Officer

Madison City Schools

Over the years, Madison City Schools (MCS) has expanded the Career Technical Education (CTE) program by adding industry recognized credentials that students can pursue through the CTE Academies. The credentials are certification tests that are often expected for employment. MCS currently offers 16 industry recognized credentials.

It has been the goal of MCS to offer these credentials at no cost to students. Each year we apply for a state grant to help cover the cost. This year we were awarded a state grant totaling $19,920, which will cover approximately half of the cost of the credentials that students pursue.

CTE teachers work very hard to integrate these industry credentials into their programs as they are preparing students to take adult-level certification tests.
