From January 26-28, EL teachers and Federal Programs members attended the Alabama-Mississippi TESOL (AMTESOL) Conference that was hosted by UAH and located in Huntsville this year. The theme was "Mission Critical," focusing on a range of topics across language, content, and culture. AMTESOL is a local opportunity for those who support EL students to share ideas, lead and attend PD sessions, and receive local support. AMTESOL emphasizes data-driven approaches to support ELs, and teachers across Alabama and Mississippi share resources and strategies in mini PD sessions. Madison City teachers Misti Bressette (LMS) and Stephanie Armbrust (BJHS) were chosen to lead a session which focused on how Madison City promotes high standards for writing while also providing scaffolds for EL students.
